The Project

Founded in 1933 in Florence, the great institution of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino is home to one of the oldest and most prestigious music festivals.

The eighty-fourth edition of the Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino opens on 12 April. Through until 14 July, the festival consists of three months of operas and concerts featuring such names as Daniele Gatti and Zubin Mehta.

An operatic-symphonic programme follows the common thread of mythokogy, love and fables, with a programme of six operas and ten symphonic concerts with continuous references and connections between operatic titles and concerts. A children’s work is also on the programme.

The works in the Festival will be presented in a series of conferences. Prima le parole, poi la musica (‘First the words, then the music’) held by leading music critics and journalists along with the participation of singers and pianists from the Academy of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

It is in program also an international conference dedicated to the famous soprano Renata Tebaldi, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth.

As a gift to the city of Florence and its inhabitants, a choral symphonic concert is scheduled to be performed in the Cavea, the evocative open space on the roof of the Theater.

We invite you to join in the Festival not only as a spectator but also as an active benefactor. Support the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and its programming.
